12-Step Recovery Programs & Peer Support Groups

Combatting the Stigma of Using Medication with Treatment

Crossroads recognizes the vital role of 12-step programs and peer recovery communities in helping patients sustain sobriety. We offer evidence-based medical treatment, which can work alongside peer-led programs to improve long-term success. We create a whole-person recovery network by helping patients with both medication, counseling and peer support.

Many 12-step programs have long held a stance that treating an OUD or AUD with medication is incompatible with their philosophy of abstinence-based recovery. This stigma can discourage individuals from utilizing life-saving medications or make them feel unwelcome in these recovery communities.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), people treated with methadone or buprenorphine are up to 59% less likely to experience an overdose than those who attempt to achieve recovery without medication. Additionally, patients receiving medication-based recovery support were four times more likely to remain in treatment compared to those who sought other treatment options.

Unhoused Population & Transitional Housing

Many individuals experiencing homelessness also struggle with addiction. Without access to treatment, breaking the cycle of SUDs and housing instability can be incredibly difficult. Our partnerships with shelters help bridge the gap by offering medical treatment, counseling and harm reduction tools that empower individuals to pursue stable housing and employment opportunities.

Harm Reduction Initiatives

Crossroads aligns with harm reduction efforts by providing a lower barrier to treatment, connecting individuals with healthcare services and providing harm reduction items. We strive to reduce harm in our communities and help individuals transition into treatment when ready.
